(Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:56) Translation: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessings upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace in abundance.”
This blessed verse is an explicit, divine encomium (Naat) of the Master of all Messengers, Sayyid-ul-Mursaleen ﷺ. It reveals that Allah Ta’ala continuously sends His special mercy (Rahmah) upon His Beloved ﷺ, and His angels constantly supplicate for blessings and mercy in his honor. Therefore, O Muslims! You too must send Durood-o-Salam (blessings and salutations) upon him, invoking divine mercy and peace upon his exalted station.
Prophetic Traditions on the Virtues of Durood Shareef
1. Tenfold Mercy Upon a Single Recitation
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Manifestation of Light, the Sovereign of all Prophets, Sarwar-e-Anbiya ﷺ, delivered this soul-nourishing statement:
“Whosoever sends Durood upon me once, Allah Pak will shower ten mercies upon him.” (Sahih Muslim, p. 216, Hadeeth: 408)
2. Eradication of Sins
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Beloved of the Lord of Honor, the Benefactor of Humanity ﷺ, whose every word is rooted in mercy, stated:
“Whosoever sends Durood upon me once, Allah Pak will shower ten mercies upon him and erase ten of his sins.” (Al-Ihsan bi-Tartib Sahih Ibn Hibban, Vol. 2, p. 130, Hadeeth: 901)
3. Elevation of Ranks and Multiplication of Rewards
Hazrat Abu Burdah bin Niyar (رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Noble Messenger, the Emperor of the Children of Adam, Shahanshah-e-Bani Adam ﷺ, delivered this statement imbued with blessings:
“Whosoever from among my Ummah sends Durood upon me once with sincerity of heart, Allah Kareem will shower ten mercies upon him, record ten good deeds for him, elevate him by ten spiritual ranks, and erase ten of his sins.” (Al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, Vol. 22, p. 195, Hadeeth: 513)
Proximity on the Day of Resurrection
4. The Blessed Day of Jumu’ah
Hazrat Abu Umamah (رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Paragon of Beauty and Grace, the Peerless Messenger ﷺ, delivered this masterful statement:
“Increase the recitation of Durood upon me on every Friday (Jumu’ah), for indeed the Durood of my Ummah is presented before me every Friday. On the Day of Resurrection, the closest of people to me will be the one who sent the most Durood upon me (in the world).”
5. Intercession and Nearness
Hazrat Ibn Mas’ud (رَضِیَ اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَنْہُ) narrates that the Helper of the helpless, the Intercessor of the Day of Reckoning, Shafee’-e-Roz-e-Shumar ﷺ, stated:
“Indeed, the closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who sent the most Durood upon me during the life of the world.” (Al-Ihsan bi-Tartib Sahih Ibn Hibban, Vol. 2, p. 133, Hadeeth: 908)
Salvation From the Terrors of the Afterlife
The Holy Prophet, the Kind and Most Compassionate, Raoof-ur-Raheem ﷺ, declared:
“O People! Indeed, the one among you who will attain the swiftest salvation from the terrors and the accountability of the Day of Resurrection will be the person who sent Durood upon me in abundance during the life of the world.” (Firdaus-ul-Akhbar, Vol. 2, p. 471, Hadeeth: 8210)
The Final Prophet of Allah Kareem ﷺ, in his mercy-laden decree, concluded:
“Recite Durood upon me in abundance, for surely your recitation of Durood upon me is a means of forgiveness (Maghfirah) for your sins.
