It should be clarified that hidden sciences are known as Occult Sciences, and transcendent/supernatural sciences are commonly referred to as Paranormal Sciences.
Within Uloom-e-Makhfiya (Occult Sciences), all those branches of knowledge are included which we recognize as Ilm al-Haroof (science of letters), Ilm al-Jafr, Ilm al-A‘daad (numerology), Ilm-e-Raml (geomancy), Ilm al-Naqsh (talismanic structures/squares), and other similar sciences.
On the other hand, within Maworai Uloom (transcendent sciences), all those sciences are encompassed in which the core focus is directed toward the acquisition of spiritual powers. Examples include Ashghal-o-Muraqabat (spiritual exercises and meditations), Amal-e-Tanaffus (breathwork), Chilla Kashi (spiritual seclusion/retreats), paying the Zakat of A’maal (spiritual operations), and awakening healing and spiritual capacities—which involves Yoga and the awakening of the spiritual eye, effectively highlighting ESP and Psychic Abilities. All of these, in one way or another, fall under Parapsychology.
Regarding Uloom-e-Makhfiya, we stated a long time ago that these sciences are not inherently spiritual; rather, there is a scientific mechanism and intervention involved within them. Every such branch of knowledge falls under the category of science which bestows the beauty of imagination upon thought, and the beauty of conviction upon the mind. Consequently, the faculties of our mind remain actively engaged in giving it the form of reality. In our view, all these sciences, such as Ilm-e-Falakiyat (astronomy/astrology), Ilm al-Haroof, Ilm al-Jafr, and Ilm al-Naqsh, are inherently linked to a form of science. A process of calculation and deduction (Qiyas) is present within these sciences. In contrast to this, Parapsychology—meaning Ilm Maba’d al-Nafsiyat—is the science of awakening inherent spiritual capacities and powers.
